# Install the apps and link a folder

*Guide*

The G&G apps open in the browser and install as applications: they start from their own icon and work without a connection too. On a computer, Invoice Scope and Plan Scope also keep a copy of the data in a folder you choose.

Last updated: 27 October 2026

## The advantages of installing

An installed app opens from its own icon — in the Dock, in the Start menu or on the Home Screen — in a window of its own, without the browser's bar. It works without a connection too, and updates itself when a new version comes out. The data stays where it was: on your device, without passing through any server.

Installing also protects the data. Chrome and Safari take installation into account when they decide whether to keep a site's archive permanently; without that guarantee, the browser may remove the data when space runs short or, in Safari, when the site has not been opened for some time.

Installing needs no app store and no account. The browser does it in three steps, and it is undone the same way.

## Installing and the automatic copy in each browser

| System and browser | Installing | Automatic copy in a folder |
|---|---|---|
| Chrome or Edge on Windows, macOS and Linux | Yes | Yes |
| Safari on a Mac, from macOS Sonoma | Yes, with “Add to Dock” | No: the archive is exported by hand |
| Safari on iPhone and iPad | Yes, with “Add to Home Screen” | No: the archive is exported by hand |
| Chrome on Android | Yes | No: the archive is exported by hand |
| Firefox on a computer | Only as an experiment, on Windows | No: the archive is exported by hand |

For Invoice Scope and Plan Scope, which keep a working archive, the recommended combination is Chrome or Edge on a computer: it is the only one in which the app writes a copy of the data into a folder by itself.

## Installing with Chrome or Edge on a computer

1. Open the app from its page on the website, with the “Open the app” button.
2. Press the install icon at the right-hand end of the address bar, or the “Install” button in the app's bar.
3. Confirm with “Install” in the browser's window.

*The icon in the address bar and the app's “Install” button open the same question from the browser.*

If the icon does not appear, installing is in the browser's menu. In Chrome: the ⋮ menu at the top right, then the entry for saving and sharing, then “Install…”. In Edge: the … menu at the top right, then “Apps”, then “Install…”. The exact name of the entries changes from one version of the browser to the next.

*The path through the browser's menu, when the icon in the address bar does not appear.*

From then on the app has a window of its own and an icon among the computer's programs: in the Dock on a Mac, in the Start menu and on the taskbar on Windows.

*The installed app opens in a window of its own, from its icon.*

The “Install” button in the app's bar only appears when the browser offers to install, and does not come back once the invitation has been closed. In Invoice Scope and Plan Scope the same step is always available under “Installation”: in the Settings of Invoice Scope, in the ⋯ menu of Plan Scope.

## Installing with Safari on a Mac

1. Open the app in Safari.
2. From the File menu choose “Add to Dock…”. The same entry is also under the Share button in Safari's bar.
3. Confirm the name and press “Add”.

*Safari on a Mac: the File menu, then “Add to Dock…”, then “Add”.*

It takes macOS Sonoma or later. An app added to the Dock **does not share its data with Safari**: an archive started in a Safari tab does not appear in the installed app. It is therefore best to install the app before starting work, or to export the archive from the tab and import it into the app.

## Installing on iPhone and iPad

1. Open the app in Safari.
2. Tap the ⋯ button next to the address and choose “Share”. In versions of iOS before 26, “Share” is directly in the bar.
3. Choose “Add to Home Screen”, leave opening as a web app switched on, and confirm with “Add”.

*iPhone: the ⋯ button, then “Share”, then “Add to Home Screen”.*

Here too the installed app keeps data of its own, separate from Safari's: the advice given for the Mac applies.

## Installing on Android

1. Open the app in Chrome.
2. From the ⋮ menu at the top right choose “Install app”. In some versions the entry is called “Add to Home screen”.
3. Confirm with “Install”.

*Android: Chrome's ⋮ menu, then “Install app”, then “Install”.*

## Linking a folder

Without a server, the archive of Invoice Scope and Plan Scope lives in one place only: the browser's storage on your computer. Clearing the browser's data, deleting a profile or a failed disk would take it away. The linked folder holds a second copy: at every change the app writes the whole archive there by itself, and also keeps one copy a day for the last thirty days. The images go next to the archive too and, in Invoice Scope, the receipts of payments.

If the folder is inside Dropbox, iCloud Drive, OneDrive or Google Drive, the copy also reaches that service, with no further steps.

1. In Invoice Scope open “Settings” and, in the “Automatic copy in a folder” box, press “Choose the folder…”. In Plan Scope the same box is in “Folders and copies”, in the ⋯ menu at the top.
2. Choose a folder, preferably one for that app alone, and confirm.
3. The browser asks whether the app may change the files in the folder: answer “Allow”.

*Linking a folder: the app's button, the folder chosen, the browser's permission.*

Under the button appears the time of the last copy. From then on there is nothing else to do.

Survey Scope keeps an automatic copy of the results of its questionnaires: the “Automatic copy in a folder” box is in the “Saved results” window.

## The permission when the app opens again

The browser may ask for the permission again when the app is reopened. The app then says so with the “Resume the folder” button: press it and confirm. Chrome also offers to allow access on every visit, and with the app installed Chrome and Edge usually stop asking: one more reason to install it.

*When reopening: “Resume the folder”, then consent for every visit.*

Until the permission is given, no copy reaches the folder. Invoice Scope says so on its Home screen, Plan Scope on the projects screen.

## Moving to a new computer

1. Install the app on the new computer, with Chrome or Edge.
2. Link the same folder used for the copies, for instance the one inside Dropbox or iCloud Drive.
3. The app recognises the copies already there and offers to bring back the most recent: confirm.

*New computer: the same folder, and the app brings the archive back in.*

A folder receives copies from one computer at a time. To consult the archive on a second computer, without linking the folder there, use “Import an archive” in Invoice Scope or “Import a project” in Plan Scope.

Without a linked folder the move is made by hand: in Invoice Scope with “Export everything” in the Settings of the old computer and “Import an archive” on the new one; in Plan Scope with “Back up everything” and “Import a project”, both in the ⋯ menu.

## Updating and removing the apps

Updates arrive by themselves. Next to the app's name is its version: when a new one is ready a green dot appears, and tapping it reloads the app updated with the data intact. Otherwise the new version comes in at the next opening.

Removal is done by the system:

- Chrome and Edge on a computer: from the menu of the app's window, “Uninstall”. Chrome also offers to delete the data: if it is still needed, leave the box unticked.
- Mac, app added with Safari: drag the app to the Bin from the Applications folder inside your home folder.
- iPhone and iPad: press and hold the icon and choose “Remove App”.
- Android: press and hold the icon and choose “Uninstall”.

With Chrome, Edge and Android removing the app does not delete the data, which stays in the browser. With Safari, on Mac, iPhone and iPad, the installed app keeps data of its own, and removing it may delete them: export an archive first.
